Multicultural Night Q&A
Thank you for your interest in Multicultural Night! Please read the Q&A below and, if your question is not answered, please email sarah.rizvi@lietzhsc.com.
Question: How can I participate in Multicultural Night?
Answer: Everyone is welcome and there are many ways to participate.
Food and Drinks
Question: What kind of food and drinks should I bring and how much?
Answer: You can bring any kind of food or drink which represents your heritage culture. You will be asked to fill out dietary cards when you arrive, so please make sure you know if your dish contains allergens, meat, dairy, etc…
Question: Do I need to make the food or order it?
Answer: Either is fine. You can also purchase pre-packaged food and drinks (like from Costco) and heat it up and bring it to the event.
Question: Should I bring plates and utensils and cups?
Answer: HSC will provide some plates, utensils and cups but we ask you bring your own serving dishes and serving utensils (i.e., tongs).
Performances
Question: What kind of performance can we do?
Answer: Most people plan a song, dance, play an instrument or recite a poem. If you have another type of performance you would like to plan, please note it on the Multicultural Night Performance Sign Up.
Question: How long should performances be?
Answer: Less than 5 minutes, as children have shorter attention spans and there may be many people who want to perform.
Question: Can adults perform as well?
Answer: Yes! Performances are open to all members of the community, including staff.
Question: Will there be a stage?
Answer: Due to budget cuts we will not be having a stage like last year, but there will be a section in the front where people can perform. We recommend you avoid barefoot performances if possible.
Booth or Table Display
Question: Do I have to do a booth or table display to participate?
Answer: No
Question: Does my booth have to have food?
Answer: No.
Question: What if I want a partner for my table display?
Answer: Signup for a booth and note that you want a partner. We will do our best to match you with someone and notify you over email.
Question: What should my booth look like?
Answer: It is very open ended and your booth can have any child appropriate educational material, art, books, games, fashion or pictures. Check out this video for an example.
We do suggest you bring a canopy if you have access to one, as it may be very sunny.
Question: Can I serve food at my booth?
Answer: Yes!
Question: Will HSC Provide tables for the booths?
Answer: We encourage volunteers to bring their own folding tables. We have limited tables on campus. PLEASE LABEL YOUR TABLE WITH YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER, as cleanup can be hectic and sometimes tables are misplaced.
Question: Can I have a monitor/laptop at my booth?
Answer: Yes, but please bring an extension cord. Please note that you take complete responsibility for your monitor/laptop and accept the risks associated with having it around children. If you will have a monitor/laptop, please email sarah.rizvi@lietzhsc.com so we can save you a spot near the outlets.
Question: Can I plan a quiz or game for my booth?
Answer: YES! The kids love those!
Question: Can I give out favors or gifts at my booth?
Answer: YES! If you are giving out food or treats, please make sure you know the ingredients and you may want to list them so people who have dietary restrictions can read them.
Fashion/Clothes
Question: Will there be a fashion show?
Answer: Possibly, we will know closer to the actual date.
Question: Do I sign up to dress up for Multicultural Night?
Answer: No
