What is Art Vistas?
Art Vistas is a fun and exciting art education program at Lietz that is staffed entirely by parent volunteers like you! Our volunteers (called docents) give six presentations throughout the year in their child’s classroom, giving simple explanations of art concepts, showing fine art prints, and talking about the artists. Each presentation is followed by a hands-on project where the children get a chance to apply some of the concepts they have learned. Docents spend about 1.5 to 2 hours in the classroom for each presentation.
Who can be an Art Docent?
You can! Really! All parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.. are welcome. Each class needs at least one docent volunteer to be part of the program, and it’s even easier (and more fun) when the docent has two or more helpers to work together as a team!
But what if I don’t know anything about art?
You don’t need any background education in art to be an art docent. The Art Vistas program provides the art prints, lesson plans, project materials and trainings. There are two grade-level trainings per year and one general training (only for those new to Art Vistas). We want it to be easy for you! Once you sign up, the Art Vistas team will provide the necessary information and we are here to help every step of the way!
I’m still not sure…
Being a docent is a great way to spend time in your child’s classroom getting to know their classmates and teacher better, all while you help to enrich each child’s education in a fun and exciting way. We would love to have you be part of our fantastic, supportive community of parent volunteers – come join us!
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!
